Style Edit: Get Ready 2018, Here we come!!

The tree is down, the presents opened, the food is eaten and now we’re stuck in the dreaded “After Christmas blues” Get ready Ladies and Gentlemen because now is the perfect time to start thinking about your next interior project and freshen up our homes for a cracking 2018!!

Let’s get one thing straight; The beginning of the year is always cold. So let’s not be disillusioned into thinking we can bring out our floral spring colours and light-weight fabrics.

January/February = Snuggling up, plenty of cosy and thick fabrics and my personal favourite, the comforting glow of a warm fire (if you don’t have one, do NOT fret, you can still create the perfect January style)

Here are a couple of tips to start your year, the right way;

    1. pexels-photo-839442.jpegAdd some fresh flowers into your weekly shop  – If you’ve ever visited my flat you will have noticed that I ALWAYS have fresh flowers in my favourite crystal vase. As I walk through the door, not only do I smell the fresh scent of the weeks flowers but I also love the homely and vintage appeal. It doesn’t have to cost you the world to have beautiful flowers in your weekly shop, I buy mine from the local supermarket for around £5 a bunch and they give the look I am going for. For a special occasion I will spend a little more on the Interflora website who will deliver straight to your door.
    2. Give your walls a fresh coat of paint – Let’s face it, there is nothing worse than looking at your walls and thinking “Hey! is that a scratch?” or “Wow, this colour is getting old” Whether you want the same colour and just a fresher feeling or maybe you fancy a complete change of style, Now is the time.     painting-black-paint-roller.jpgThe little book of hygge
    3. Unleash the Hygge – Firstly this book changed some of my views about design and I use some of the concepts in my own home. And secondly Hygge is exactly what a winter interior should look like. Add “The Little Book Of Hygge” – Meik Wiking to your reading list (trust me on this). Hygge played quite a prominent role in 2017 Interior design but I feel it is still very relevant and will be used throughout 2018. You can purchase “The Little Book of Hygge” by clicking on the link.
    4. It’s the perfect time to get yourself some fresh Bed Linen – I always say to my husband that new bed linen is an investment in the years sleep, but he will tell you that it’s just my excuse for my obsession with Egyptian cotton. After the Christmas linen is ironed and put away, I like to hunt for something new and something bold.

    5. Have a sort out!!! – Say yes or say no (it’s that simple). I used to be the kind of girl who cluttered and kept EVERYTHING. Not anymore!! Since I began my interior design journey, my hoarding of ‘precious’ items has decreased by over well over half. Ask yourself: Do I need this? Do I wear this? Does this bring anything to the design of my home?
    6. Make an organising/cleaning itinerary – One of my biggest faults is that sometimes I have a tendency to value work over tidying, however now I have a clear itinerary things to get done. For example; Saturday – Washing, Sunday – cleaning, Monday – Sorting my office (since I continuously order swatches, magazines and catalogues, so this is a major job most of the time).

Bring on 2018!!
